INTRO.
Ok, I have never played Two Worlds 1, so I will judge this title without having a complete view of the series. Two Worlds 2 is perhaps the first game that comes with a style of gameplay similar to The Witcher 3, with all respects. Carefull, in terms of role play, Two Worlds 2 proposes anything new but rather it remains in the safe-zone where it is better not to formulate anything. A title definitely of little success, which shined in 2010. Not really "shined", it was more like a flash that did not leave much hope for a possible sequel. Two Worlds 2 is a title that deserved to evolve into a third game because the basics were good. A high fantasy from a mixed combat system between melee weapons, reminiscent of Risen 1, and magic that is based on a system of combinations of spells and cards that vary the effects depending on the Tiers. At rolistic level, Two Worlds 2 offers interesting quests, not particularly exciting but they manage to entertain as much as possible. Various large maps of various types that, unfortunately, just like in The Witcher 3, are absolutely empty. Evaluating this game is very difficult since it is made of pros and cons perfectly balanced.
EXPLORATION.
Certainly, exploration is not its strongest element. Two Worlds 2, as already mentioned before, presents several large maps but they don't have much to offer apart from the beautiful designs. It's all open world with only a few loading screans. On a graphic level we are on high standards, even for 2018. In fact, Two Worlds 2 was very difficult to run on computers at the time. The maps have a really unique style: you go from a map that is characterized by a savannah with animals typical of that habitat, to an area that has oriental style and to another map which has a dark fantasy style with lots of undead creatures and various demons (my favorite). But as I said before, apart from the aesthetic aspect, there is nothing else to say. The maps are full of monsters and being large, they push the player to go to adventures only for the sole purpose to kill monsters for fun or to experiment with various weapons, spells and customizable armors.
PLOT.
Here I would not like to say much due to spoilers. Two Worlds 2 is a high fantasy with some low elements set in a world ruled by a tyrant who has established an empire that spreads across the globe. We will be one of his prisoners helped by a team of orcs during our escape from his castle. In the first hours the game recalls a bit Oblivion but soon this feeling fades as the game takes various styles of setting and mixes them in a single title. We talk about a title that mixes, dark fantasy with high fantasy and oriental fantasy. The mix works because the styles are merged so well, without breaking into the tresh. Although the idea of seeing a knight with a western fantasy armor fighting a guy who has a katana, it could be horrible for some but the basic concept of Two Worlds 2 is fascinating!
RPG ELEMENT.
Ok. Prepare yourself! Here, unfortunately, no innovative formula is proposed. More or less you will do the same things you did in Morrowind, Gothic, Vampire even if in a much smaller form. The quests are not mediocre even if I wanted the writers to spend more time redefining some dialogues. What I want to say is that Two Worlds 2 has 3 pros and 3 cons.
Pros:
1. The quests tend to intertwine. And 'this is good because some quests in particular have the advantage of appearing
linked to other quests.
2. They tend to be complex and not trivial. Not high standards Though.
3. They have interesting dialogues.
Cons:
1. Some quests are boring.
2. Some quests could be improved because they are predictable.
3. The dubbing is victim of a low budget !!
COMBAT AND GAMEPLAY.
I believe that combat is the only thing that works properly. The combat is beautiful, you can have fun experimenting with new spells and training with the melee combat system. Since the combat system is beautiful, the developers have proposed a multiplayer platform with lots of mmo-style quests, where you can create a new alter-ego. Formulating new spells with other people is really fun even if I do not think that today there are still active servers. The melee combat system has various moves and attacks that are more or less similar to those of Risen 1. No, no rolling, because you parry or you dodge, that's it. We must take care of every movement of our enemies and attack at the right moment. If you loved Dark Souls, Gothic or any hardcore combat systems, maybe this title will interest you. But remember to use spells otherwise it's like playing half of the game. You will spend several hours experimenting with new spells and combinations of weapons and magic.
As I have already said dozens of times, this game certainly does not revolutionize the genre. I really wanted to see a Two Worlds 3, because I wanted to see if the developers would have taken the step forward but unfortunately ...
Then! What to do?! Do I recommend it or do I not recommend it ?! I would say yes anyway.
