Deus Ex: Mankind Divided - Review

Updated: Dec 24, 2018

INTRO. ("Deus Ex: Story Divided")

Deus Ex Mankind Divided fully reflects the legend of Icarus: a game that is too ambitious that would eventually fail in its initial intent.

Will it be the publisher's fault? It is not known. All we know is that the disappointment has discouraged the developers in making a third chapter. Mankind Divided looks more mature and in a certain light, it is better than its predecessor but unfortunately it is not a good game. The game is closer to the original Deus Ex in concept but it keeps the spirit of Human Revolution, though it's unable to catch any targets due to its shamelessly cut development process.

EXPLORATION.

Deus Ex Mankind Divided is set in Prague, a city governed by an authoritarian regime, where militarized police use force to subjugate and dominate the population. The impact at the beginning of the game feels a lot like Half Life 2. In fact, the whole city is full of policemen intent on bothering us because of our augmentations. In this regard, the augmentated citizens are secluded, discriminated and they do not have access to all public services. The segregation leads to a deep hatred towards the police but they will mock us regardless. The city is big and full of secrets, creating something memorable thanks to an excellent level design made of hidden areas and alternative routes worthy of DooM and Quake, giving a freedom of approach to missions and exploration really incredible and borderless. The fanatic explorers will find a heaven here.

PLOT.

At the beginning it looks promising but then it turns out to be a total disappointment towards the end as the plot itself has been cut, leaving no final ending, penalizing even more a badly measured adventure with a bitter aftertaste.

The plot takes place 2 years after the events of Deus Ex Human Revolution, in 2029. After the incident caused by a cip who has driven all the augmentated people mad all across the planet and the Illuminati's plan to transform the world into a dictatorship is almost completed . The plot focuses mostly on finding the responsible for some terrorist attacks caused by a movement for the rights of the aug people called the ARK. Later it is discovered that these attacks have been planned by some powerful people who want the UN to vote for the Human Restoration. This law will start the total segregation into ghettos, like the Utulek complex, of all the world's augmentated people.

RPG ELEMENT.

The RPG element is more dynamic than H.R but generically it is very organic compared to all the other RPGs on the market. Finally there are no key choices like Mass Effect or The Witcher. Here the finales are influenced by all the choices and gameplay approaches that the player has adopted since the beginning of the campaign. The RPG element, in practice, merges with exploration, allowing huge approaches to the missions, making the rpg experience dependent largely on the player's actions and not on the dialogue choices.

COMBAT SYSTEM AND GAMEPLAY.

The combat system has remained the same but this time it seems very cluncky at times: There are also some problems with ballistic system. There is nothing to be said since there have been no steps forward.

At this point Deus Ex Mankind Divided will divide, in fact, the fan base in two parts between those who will see the good side or the bad side, so as to make the views on this game as subjective as it is discostant. However, the game is not to be despised, absolutely not. The problem is that Mankind Divided is too short and does not stand as a colossus of the FPS stealth genre. In principle this new Deus Ex is like a half lunch which does not fully satisfy. The dynamic gameplay with incredibly organic RPG mechanics, all mixed with a combat system that didn't change from Human Revolution. Unfortunately, the result can only be negative since the game itself is very disappointing. When we talk about Deus Ex we expect a big game and instead in this case we find ourselves with an incomplete one. I'm very sorry to give a negative rating to this game but as I said before, the game has a huge potential but unfortunately it disappoints a lot.

Game is bad!
